Statement

A certain energy is released when an artist can find peace through altering a material into their unique creative vision. Metal is my source of expression. Through repousse, I can focus my mental and physical energy at once to transform a solid sheet of metal into a textured, rounded form. This hammering exercise allows me to envision what plants and their integral parts can appear to be in metal. What I find most interesting about interpreting nature through my artwork is that I am giving this flower or twisted vine a texture and movement that is forever unique to my handwork. Another aesthetic aside from the organic form is the industrial appearance that my work takes on. Through building layers of sheet metal with rivets and spacers, my jewelry becomes somewhat architectural. When combined with natural forms, the outcome is an interesting duality. Another influence on my jewelry is the Art Deco Movement. Pierced geometric shapes with airy dynamics often appear in my designs. Silver with precious and semi-precious gemstones are the materials I tend to use. Currently I am developing a production line of pendants that consist of pierced metal layered with lamination settings and riveted together. My latest fine pieces have been dealing with natural forms viewed through a microscope. This brings a new perspective into the way I am interpreting nature and it adds new elements of design and form to my jewelry. - Keeley
